If you don’t have health insurance as part of your job, or if you’re not covered by Medicare or another plan, the federal health insurance market can help you find coverage. Open enrollment for 2022 coverage begins November 1 and ends January 15. Individuals must register by December 15 for coverage that begins January 1.
If you are receiving Medicare benefits, you are not entitled to assistance from the health insurance market. For Medicare enrollment responses, call the Yellowstone County Adult Resource Alliance Resource Center SHIP Advisors at 406-259-5212. Medicare enrollment is open until Dec. 7 for prescription drug coverage and Medicare Advantage plans.
There are many health insurance coverage websites out there, but the official marketplace site is HealthCare.gov. This is the only website where you can get premium tax credits. These credits reduce the monthly premium costs. You have the option of registering online, calling the Marketplace directly, or contacting a licensed application advisor in your area for an appointment.
At HealthCare.gov, you can get a clear picture of the cost, compare plans based on your health needs, and choose the combination of price and coverage that fits your family’s needs.
Through HealthCare.gov, you can also find out if you qualify for the Montana Assistance Plan. In 2015, Montana expanded Medicaid to create the HELP plan for low-income Montana residents who were not already eligible for Medicaid. This plan is open to people aged 19 to 64, depending on income and family size.
