Sendero Health Plans donates 1,000 turkeys to elderly, disabled and low-income residents of Austin


AUSTIN, Texas, November 18, 2021 / PRNewswire / – One week away from Thanksgiving, Sendero Health Plans, Austin’s nonprofit Affordable Care Act health plan, distributed 1,000 whole turkeys last Saturday to help elderly, disabled and low-income Austinians enjoy a little more. these next holidays.

The titled turkey gift Turkey Day / Fiesta del Pavo, organized in collaboration with Austin Public Health’s Austin East Neighborhood center, is part of the celebration of Sendero health plans of 10 years of service to the community. Sendero Health paid for the turkeys and Austin Public Health provided additional side dishes for the holiday meal which included three cans of peas, three cans of green beans, three cans of pears, two cans of Mac & Cheese, four sachets of mash of instant potatoes and a large bottle of cooking oil. Some households also received a dozen eggs.

“Sendero celebrates its 10e anniversary this year and we wanted to give back to the community that has supported us over the past decade, ”said Wesley durkalski, President and CEO of Sendero Health Plans. “We wanted to help make this Thanksgiving vacation a little easier for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Recipients of the turkeys went to volunteers who loaded a turkey and sides into the cars. Free flu shots were also provided to those who wished.

Other participating organizations in addition to Sendero Health and Austin Public Health and its Austin East Neighborhood center were Austin Public Works, the Central Texas Food Bank and Austin ISD.

Sendero Health Plans recently received a four-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, making Sendero the only four-star and highest-rated health plan in Texas and the first and only one to obtain this distinction in Central Texas. Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act health plans is underway. The deadline to register for plans with a January 1, 2022 the start date is December 15, 2021.
